ARC Raiders Rusted Gear Farming Guide: Best Locations Across All Maps

If you are working on your workshop upgrades in ARC Raiders, you already know the pain of hunting for Rusted Gears. It is easily one of the most frustrating bottlenecks in the early-to-mid game, especially when you are trying to finally check off that Gunsmith III upgrade.
The irony isn’t lost on anyone: the world of ARC Raiders is literally covered in decaying, rusted machinery, yet finding an actual Rusted Gear feels like winning the lottery because of their low drop rates. If you just search loose shelves or randomly look through drawers, you are going to waste hours.
To farm them efficiently, you need to change your strategy. You need to focus almost exclusively on breaching cars, trucks, buses, and yellow industrial generators in high-tier zones. Let’s break down the absolute best routes and spots across the maps so you can get your gears and get out alive.

1. Dam Battlegrounds (The Most Reliable Map)
If you want consistent runs with a high chance of success, make the Dam your go-to map. Because this map is packed with heavy transport vehicles and industrial facilities, it naturally hosts some of the most reliable gear-farming clusters in the game.
  • The Twin Buses (North Complex / Patterson House Extraction): This is universally agreed upon by the community as the single best spot in the game. Right next to the North Complex / Generator Hall extraction elevator, you will find two parallel buses. Pull out your torch and breach the backs as well as the side luggage compartments. Tests show a massive 80% to 90% drop rate for a Rusted Gear per run here. The best part? You can hit them, shove the gear into your safe pocket, and extract immediately right next to you.

  • Hydroponic Dome Complex: Make your way to the central area directly between the two largest domes. There is a lone parked car sitting right in the middle. If you breach both sides of this specific vehicle, it yields a highly consistent gear drop.

  • The Scrapyard (Electromagnetic Storms): Normally, the baseline drop rate here can feel a little underwhelming for how industrial it looks. However, if you happen to be in a raid during an Electromagnetic Storm event, the loot tables shift dynamically. During a storm, the breachable containers in the Scrapyard start dropping multiple gears per raid, making it well worth the risk.
2. The Blue Gate (Highest Gear-Per-Minute Potential)
If you prefer a high-volume approach where you check as many potential containers as humanly possible in a single deployment, pack your bags for The Blue Gate.
  • Warehouse Complex Underground (The Underpass & Checkpoint): This is a massive subterranean parking facility, and it is a literal goldmine. There are over 40 breachable vehicles crammed into this single zone. You can access it via various entrances on the surface or take the zipline down from inside the main Warehouse Complex.

  • Why it works: The Checkpoint area is classified as a high-tier loot zone. This classification heavily skews the loot pool in your favor, meaning the game is far more likely to roll a rare Rusted Gear instead of just handing you another common Rusted Tool.

  • Pro-Tip: If you want to maximize your returns, try running this route solo during a Night Raid. The night modifiers apply a passive buff to the area's loot rarity, making those 40+ vehicles even more lucrative.
3. Buried City (Best for Solo & Quiet Runs)
If you are a solo player or just don't feel like fighting over the high-PvP choke points at the Dam's extracts or the Blue Gate's underpass, the Buried City offers a fantastic, low-profile alternative loop.
  • The Northwest Warehouse Loop: When you get here, skip the standard indoor shelves entirely. Instead, head outside and look along the eastern exterior wall of the building. You will find two yellow industrial generators sitting side-by-side. Breaching these specific panels has a surprisingly high anomaly-level drop rate for gears.

  • Marano Station & Parking Garages: After checking the generators, rotate down through the multi-level parking garages. Keep your torch ready and focus completely on popping open car hoods and trunks. Because these garages are tucked away from the map's primary combat hot spots, it is an incredibly safe route to run with low-tier or completely free naked kits.
Three Rules to Live By When Farming Gears
To save yourself some sanity, keep these core mechanics in mind on every single raid:
  1. Always Prioritize Breaching: Rusted Gears are almost never found as loose floor loot. They are hard-locked behind container interactions that require a breaching tool or torch (bonnets, bus trunks, generator panels). Do not waste your time checking loose drawers.

  2. Utilize Your Safe Pockets: The absolute second a Rusted Gear lands in your inventory, move it manually into your safe pocket. ARC Raiders can be brutal, and even if you get ambushed by a competitive squad or sniped by a Rocketeer on the way to extraction, keeping it in your safe pocket guarantees it makes it back to your workshop.

  3. Do Not Recycle by Mistake: This happens way more often than you think. Rusted Gears look almost identical to basic, low-tier junk in your inventory screen. Be incredibly careful when you are clearing out your inventory post-raid so you don't accidentally scrap the very resource you spent three raids looking for.
Pick the map that matches your current playstyle—whether that is hitting the Twin Buses on the Dam for a quick extract, or sneaking through the garages in Buried City—and you will have that Gunsmith III upgrade unlocked in no time. Good luck out there, Raiders.
